Egyptian Art
The ancient Egyptian art piece called Bust of Nefertiti is about 3,400 years old and in near perfect condition. Currently it is housed in Berlin, Germany at the Altes Museum. It is one of the best-known artworks of ancient art history and considered a model of feminine beauty.
The bust is made of limestone and is 20 inches tall. Ludwig Borchardt, a German archeologist, found it in 1912 near the Egyptian town of Tell el-Amarna. Nefertiti was a queen of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV.
Wall paintings were a popular form of ancient Egypt. One noteworthy aspect of those paintings is the artist’s use of two dimensional flat like figures instead of the more modern attempt to portray depth.
The ancient Egyptians also created beautiful works of impressive sculpture, crafts and architecture dating from around 5,000 BC. Their art forms have a regularity and detailed depiction of humans and nature. Usually they were placed in tombs and were intended to provide company to the deceased because they were familiar objects of this world.
